– TEFL certificate from TEFL International and a B.A. in International Relations

Amy Salmon

Amy Salmon spent three years living and teaching English in Asia, with eighteen months in both Thailand and South Korea. She has a TEFL certificate from TEFL International and a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Delaware.

Before turning to teaching, Amy spent several years as a broke actress, and had many different kinds of ”survival jobs”, including working in hotels, at Starbucks, as a concierge, in law firms, as a temp, as a receptionist, and as a dog groomer. Teaching, traveling and writing are her passions, however, she is happy to be able to continue working as an ESL teacher from the US.

A language learner all her life, Amy began studying French through an immersion program at her elementary school at age 4, and spent her junior year in high school as an exchange student in France. She has also studied Spanish, German and Latin in more traditional language classes, but believes that immersion is the best way to learn a language. Grammar has its place, but she thinks that relaxing and focusing on telling a story allows students to really get inside a language, and that is her goal as a teacher.

She wants her students to put their attention on making a connection, with the language and with the person they are speaking with, rather than on getting everything perfect, and that in so doing, their confidence increases and their mistakes decrease.
